Perennial, creeping club-moss like herbs; found in marshes or swamps. Stems densely covered with spirally-arranged, 1-nerved, simple, linear or filiform leaves; margin entire, apically toothed. Inflorescence of solitary, axillary flowers or in a few-flowered umbel. Flowers bisexual, actinomorphic. Perianth of distinct sepals and petals. Sepals free; persistent; green. Petals imbricate, free; pink to white. Stamens alternate with petals. Ovary superior; carpels fused. Fruit a loculicidal capsule. Worldwide: 1 genus and 6 species from southern USA to Argentina and Africa. DRC: 1 genus and 1 taxon. |
