Trees, shrubs and geoxylic suffrutices. Leaves simple, entire, alternate, coriaceous, brittle. Lower leaf surface glabrous or with a few strigose hairs. Flowers strongly zygomorphic. Receptacle tube always curved, obliquely campanulate., slightly to strongly gibbous, nearly always markedly oblique at the mouth, always longer than the sepals. Drupe fleshy; endosperm hairy inside, on germination breaking up in an irregular manner. Worldwide: About 10 species in tropical Africa and 2 in Madagascar. DRC: 2 taxa. |
