Triplophyllum Holttum

Description of the genus

Rhizome long-creeping, slender; rhizome scales slender, not clathrate. Fronds spaced. Lamina deltoid-pentagonal or somewhat elongate in outline; basal pinnae mostly fully pinnate, their basal basiscopic pinnules in some species bearing leaflets of the fourth order; ultimate leaflets almost always asymmetric at their bases, basiscopic base narrowly cuneate; venation free, sometimes anastomosing but not forming regular areoles, free veins absent from areoles; cylindric glands absent. Sori usually round; indusia reniform, in some species very small or absent.

Worldwide: 20 species in tropical Africa and America.
