Description of the genus

Trees or shrubs. Leaves without gland-dots. Flowers in many-flowered panicles with a long peduncle, bisexual. Perianth segments 6, ± equal (in ours). Style relatively long with a discoid stigma. Fruit large, pear-shaped.

Worldwide: 200 species in tropical America and Asia
