Perennial herbs or subshrubs. Stipules free; stipels present. Leaves pinnately 3-foliolate. Inflorescences. axillary or terminal, falsely racemose or paniculate; flowers paired or fasciculate. Calyx 5-lobed; lobes subequal, the upper pair ± entirely joined to form a lip. Ovary many-ovulate. Pod splitting into 2 thin valves (not breaking up transversely into articles), flattened. Derivation of name: from Greek pseudes, false and arthron a joint, hence a false joint referring to the apparent joints in the pod which do not break apart into segments. Worldwide: 5 species in the tropical Old World DRC: 1 taxon. |
