Shrubs or small trees. Leaves alternate, glabrous. Flowers terminal, in umbels (in ours), 4-5-merous. Calyx-tube cylindric. Petals 0 Stamens twice as many as the calyx lobes. Ovary 2-locular. Fruit a drupe. Derivation of name: named after Lt-Col John Peddie, plant collector in the Eastern Cape in the 1830s Worldwide: About 10 species in tropical and SE Africa, and one endemic in Madagascar. Two in the FZ region. DRC: 5 taxa. |
