| Description: | Perennial herb with erect unbranched stems up to 50 cm high, growing from a creeping rhizome. Leaves opposite, more or less equal in size, more or less broadly ovate, mostly 2-5 cm long, hairless on both surfaces but with linear outgrowths of the epidermal cell walls (cystoliths); margin with 5-15 teeth each side; petiole 4-6 cm long. Stipules broadly ovate, up to 5 mm long, often cordate and clasping the stem. Inflorescences in dense axillary clusters, unisexual with sexes on different plants or at least on each stem. |
