Description: |
Terrestrial or occasional lithophytic herb, up to 65 cm. The clusters of conical pseudobulbs are mostly above ground. The leaves are elliptic up to 35 cm with distinct petioles, three to four leaves may be present at the time of flowering. Inflorescence lax, normally up to 7 flowers. Petals and sepals similar, narrowly lanceolate, 2 to 3 cm, greenish to dark purple-brown; lip large with undulate margins, white to pale pink with a varying darker magenta blotch in the throat. |

Derivation of specific name: | guineensis: of Guinea; a historical term for much of West Africa. The type specimen was found in Sierra Leone. |
Habitat: | In shade among rocks in woodland or in riverine and low altitude forest. |
