Semi-deciduous tree up to 10 m tall; bark smooth, shed in large irregular scales; leaves leathery, 3.2 x 1.2-9.5 x 3.5 cm, oblanceolate, oblanceolate-oblong or obovate-oblong, apex shortly and abruptly acuminate, rarely acute or obtuse, base cuneate or rounded, lateral nerves prominent beneath; male flowers subfasciculate or in shortly pedunculate cymes, 6-9 together in axils of fallen leaves or on older branchlets; female flowers in 1-5 flowered fascicles on older leafless branches with corollas c. 1.3 cm long; fruit apiculate, yellow at first turning black at maturity, c. 2.5 x 2.2 cm, glabrous; fruiting calyx 1.4 x 2.4 cm; seeds 8, c. 1.6 x 0.6 x 0.4 cm, black. |
