Common diffuse succulent; spikes green

Lax, spreading many branches from centre, often 4 ft long. Stem dull, brick-red, nodes whitish, midrib of leaf raised below, spikes pink.

Erect, 3 ft herb, bracts and leaves below spike variegated with white at base, some bracts nearly white. Spikes lavender. Leaves tend to turn dark purple with age beginning at margin, old stems dark purple.

1.3 m long, lower 60-70 cm of stalk bare

Submerged.

In stream below dam. Plant submerged, yellow flowers above surface.
