Uvariastrum Engl. & Diels

Description of the genus

Shrubs or trees, not climbing, glabrous or with simple hairs. Flowers bisexual or rarely unisexual, solitary or paired, axillary, sometime on the old wood. Sepals 3, valvate, enclosing the petals, often densely brown pubescent. Petals 6, in 2 whorls, both valvate, except in Uvariastrum hexaloboides where the inner one is imbricate. Stamens numerous. Carpels 3-10 or more, free, cylindric or obconic, with numerous ovules in two rows. Style very short or absent. Ripe carpels indehiscent, shortly stipitate, many- to few-seeded.

Worldwide: A tropical African genus of 8 species.
