Flowers solitary but concentrated terminally, axillary, strongly descending, showy. Petals 5, free, posterior 2 much enlarged, obovate and narrowly clawed, pale pink with yellow and deep purple markings, 16 mm long. Stamens 10, well exerted. Fruit a capsule, falcate, 65-120 x 2-3 mm, apiculate, slightly flattened, green, pubescent, dehiscing along 2 seams. Seeds globose, dark-brown to black, 2 mm in diameter, verrucose.

Capitula in scorpioid cymes ( = corymbs), ellipsoid, ca. 15 x 8 mm, homogenous, disc florets 10 - 12 mm long, 5 - merous. Stigma 5-branched, well-exerted. Pappus prominent, white, straight, about 10 mm long. Involucral bract 4-6-whorled, lanceolate-ovate, green, foliaceous with white, arachnoid pubescence. Growing in forest island on termite mound.

Notes: Tall tree. Ethnobotanical specimen. Common name: tcho (Kwe), mupanda (Lozi) - wood-peg, to mark site of new home. Leaves placed in boiling water to increase milk production in cows.
